New Directions

Sometimes we wake up and find that the path we were on isn't bringing us the joy we had hoped for. Artistically I have felt dissatisfied for a long time and couldn't quite put my finger on the reason why. I am still not sure exactly what it was that seemed to hold me back but I suspect it had a lot to do with worrying about how people perceive me and what I made with my hands.
Were the things I chose to paint and the way I painted them pertinent? Art can be a long, hard labor that yields a child we are not always thrilled with in the end.
So I decided to walk down a different path and see how it felt...and...it felt wonderful and liberating, what more can any human being wish for than to create and feel no rules holding us back from creating the image that was born in our minds.
So I played with Fiber Paste and let it dry on the canvas and then looked for the image in the texture and found these. The colors were already there in my mind and applying them was so freeing.
These 2 will be on Etsy shortly, but I am already in the midst of another canvas that has me very excited.
So even though it has been so dismal outside and cold and rainy, inside it has been wonderful! And even though I hope these will sell, if they don't sell right away I will not get tired of seeing them on my own wall and that is a good thought.

I really would love to know how other artists came to their special type of art? Did they always know what they wanted to produce or did it find them?

I hope the week has been kind to everyone and the days have been filled with smiles...

  1. The important thing is that you do what feels right to you. When you start creating for others, it is no longer authentic. Feel, do, create from your heart and you can't go wrong. Do not mind what anyone thinks. Blessings, Tammy

  2. Tina,I'm so glad there was someone who could relate to My memory of those fancy shopping days back in the 50s.I thought the elevators were even fancy.I wouldn't be surprised if My sister and I even wore our little white gloves, esp.if it was after church on Sunday.I also can relate to your post exactly how I feel about My art and crafts. Now I need to Google fiber paste, right now!-- Hugs to you-Denise

  3. I tend to go from one media to another... can not focus. I love using joint compound which I discovered this year. It look similar to the fiber paste a little. And now I can't not draw each day with my iPad app called 'brushes' - so very addicted. But aren't we as artists supposed to go from one muse to the other as we feel led? I love your circles - can never get enough of them. Nice to hear from you!

  4. Your art is just wonderful.

With the new blogger thing on the 'Reader" page i found a link under an options button that said to return to the old style...it works I am still on the old way so can stop swearing at the blogger geeks who must be laughing at us poor ladies trying to figure out how their minds word.

I did a blog about it.

  5. Jump in and enjoy creating! That's how you find your style. :)

I wouldn't call myself an artist, but I've always, always loved botanical art, so that's what what I wish to accomplish.

    Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
    Hugs,
    Zuzu

  7. Hi Tina, found your art today through Jane's blog..I was surprised at the coincidence of the thoughts in this post being on my mind just yesterday! I found that by not sticking to self imposed rules, we can discover the freedom to create and that freedom will enhance the creativity. I absolutely loved what you created on your canvas!

  8. Good morning Tina ~
Surely every artist walks a difficult path every now and again. Experimentation and discovery are all part and parcel of the process of creativity...the evolution of an artist. With each canvas, create what gives YOU pleasure...and in turn you shall surely bring pleasure to the admirer.
May the time in your studio bring you much joy!
    Most warmly,
    Judy

  9. I'm glad you found the right path Tina, I think it is about being true to oneself. Your painting shows pleasure and joy, and that is what art should be for the one who creates it. xx

  10. I never did settle down to any one type of art. Now, simply because, I paint with words. I always love your art, no matter what the medium is.
